Geophysicist

Description:

Job Summary

The Geophysicist is responsible for delivering high‑quality geophysical support across the full seismic lifecycle and ensuring that subsurface insights effectively guide appraisal, development, and reservoir management decisions.
He or She is responsible for a wide range of activities, delegating or buying specialist knowledge as appropriate to cover the seismic life cycle: seismic fitness and futures, seismic and geophysical well log VOI, acquisition planning and execution, processing QC, seismic interpretation, and integration into well planning and reservoir management activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, manage, and document seismic databases, ensuring clarity on data usage guidelines and limitations. Identify data gaps and recommend seismic rejuvenation, reprocessing, or new acquisition programs.
  • Develop long term seismic strategies to support asset maturation and field development planning.
  • Conduct VOI assessments to quantify the business impact of seismic data and geophysical logging tools on well planning and reservoir decisions.
  • Define survey objectives, acquisition geometries, environmental constraints, and technical specifications for 3Dand 4D surveys.
  • Provide technical oversight throughout acquisition operations, ensuring data quality, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Support seismic processing and reprocessing workflows, from raw field data through final imaging.
  • Perform detailed QC at each processing stage, validating velocity models, noise attenuation, deghosting, multiple removal, and advanced imaging steps.
  • Interpret 3D/4D seismic data to delineate structural frameworks, stratigraphy, reservoir geometries, and fluid distributions.
  • Integrate seismic interpretation with well logs, core data, production data, and geological models to develop robust subsurface understanding.
  • Generate structural maps, attribute analyses, amplitude versus offset (AVO) studies, and seismic inversion products to support reservoir characterization.
  • Provide geophysical risk assessments and subsurface hazard interpretation for well planning.
  • Participate in well planning sessions and peer reviews, contributing geophysical insights to optimize trajectories and target selection.
  • Support real-time operations when needed, advising on geophysical uncertainties affecting drilling decisions.
  • Evaluate 4D seismic data to monitor reservoir changes, fluid movement, and pressure behavior.
  • Integrate 4D insights into reservoir management workflows, including history matching, infill drilling, and enhanced recovery planning.
  • Prepare and deliver clear technical presentations, reports, and recommendations for internal and partner meetings.
  • Deliver clear, high-quality technical presentations to leadership and partners.
  • Support for well planning, trajectory optimization, and real-time geophysical decision-making.

Requirements

  • Advanced seismic interpretation development, and reservoir management.

  • Quantitative geophysics, including seismic inversion, AVO/AVA analysis, rock physics modelling and anisotropy evaluation.

  • Integration of geophysical, geological, petrophysical, and reservoir engineering data to build robust subsurface models.

  • Proficiency with industry software (e.g. Petrel, Paleoscan, Techlog).

  • Strong understanding of velocity modelling, depth conversion, and uncertainty quantification.

  • Reservoir surveillance and monitoring using 4D seismic and other geophysical technologies.

  • Assessment of reservoir heterogeneity, compartmentalization, and fluid movement.

  • Strong understanding of acquisition technologies

  • Excellent ability to translate complex technical insights into clear business recommendations.

  • Effective engagement with reservoir engineers, geologists, drillers, partners, and management.

Education & Experience

  •  BSc or BEng, or international equivalent in Engineering or Geoscience degree.

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role

Working Conditions

  • Onshore with occasional trips to offshore facilities
