Legal Counsel

Job Summary

 

Provides legal support for broad range of upstream activities to the Azule Energy business including commercial; operations; corporate law; ethics and compliance; drafting and contracting; procurement and supply chain; assisting the business in drafting of letters to Angolan government entities; health and safety; audits; tax; customs; assessment and interpretation of Angolan legislation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides proactive and commercially focused legal advice and support that assists the delivery of the business’ strategic plans and when necessary, escalate matters to the Managing Counsel or the Legal and Corporate Affairs Director;
  • Provides an effective compliance environment appropriate to manage and reduce legal risk in the Azule Energy business and its operations;
  • Liaises regularly with the business colleagues on needs of the business and service delivery to it from the Legal and Corporate Affairs team;
  • Provides simplified business-focused legal solutions to potentially complex or fast-moving problems;
  • Supports managing Counsel and the Legal and Corporate Affairs Director and represent the Legal functions on specific matters and projects;
  • Acts consistently in line with Azule Energy policies and standards, particularly the Azule Energy Code of Conduct.

 

Requirements

  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize conflicting demands and manage the delivery of legal services across a broad and varied business base;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop effective relationships with and work closely and engage proactively with business colleagues and other members of Legal and Corporate Affairs;
  • Drive, commitment, a bias for action and a preparedness to collaborate and innovate;
  • Commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards and a strong commitment to safety;
  • Good knowledge of Angolan legislation in particular, labour, corporate and commercial contract law, environmental, including understanding principles of indemnities, warranties, liabilities, etc.

  • Business clients;
  • Legal counsel from other IOCs and regulatory agencies as required.

 

Education & experience 

  • Legal/Professional Qualification: It is preferable to be a member of a recognized law society or Law Degree.
  • 8 – 12 years of experience in Legal   

 

Working Conditions

Working conditions are typically indoors, without usage of machinery or carrying of loads. No exposure to environmental stress, contaminants of any kind or excessive heat or cold, or noise.

Governance

Azule Energy is an incorporated joint venture (IJV) between BP p.l.c. and Eni SpA. bp and Eni each holding a 50% share. Azule Energy operates in Angola under different Petroleum agreements which set out its contractual relationship with the Angolan Government (represented by the National Concessionaire). The referred agreements provide the framework for carrying out the Petroleum operations.
