Job Summary

The Reservoir Engineering Technical Authority is the ultimate technical expert and final arbiter for the reservoir engineering discipline within Azule Energy. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and assuring the technical standards, methodologies, and quality of all reservoir engineering work across the company.

The incumbent will provide expert oversight and governance on reservoir management strategies, dynamic modelling, performance analysis, and forecasting. As a key member of the technical assurance team, the Technical Authority will ensure that all reservoir engineering activities are compliant with industry best practices and corporate standards, safeguarding the integrity of development plans and maximizing asset value

 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities 

  • Develop, own, and enforce the corporate standards, workflows, and best practices for the reservoir engineering discipline.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of reservoir engineering methodologies and tools, ensuring the adoption of value-adding technologies and techniques.
  • Act as the definitive technical authority on all reservoir engineering matters, providing expert guidance and resolving the most complex technical challenges.
  • Provide independent assurance and quality control for all critical reservoir engineering deliverables, including dynamic model build, history-matching, development plans, production forecasts, and reserves estimations.
  • Lead and participate in formal peer reviews, technical workshops, and project gate reviews, ensuring the technical robustness of proposals before major investment decisions.
  • Assure the quality and integrity of reservoir performance analysis and surveillance plans.
  • Validate the technical basis for well interventions, new wells, and EOR projects from a reservoir engineering perspective.
  • Actively coach and mentor reservoir engineers across the organization, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Identify discipline-specific competency gaps and collaborate with leadership to develop targeted training and development programs.
  • Lead a community of practice for reservoir engineering, facilitating knowledge sharing and the dissemination of lessons learned.

 

Desired Skills & Experience 

  • Technically rigorous and knowledgeable about subsurface and standards as applied in subsurface
  • Recognized expert in reservoir engineering, with deep knowledge of classical reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, performance analysis, fluid characterization (PVT), SCAL, and well test analysis.
  • Ability to integrate reservoir engineering insights into the broader asset and corporate strategy, influencing long-term development and value creation.
  • Facilitates effective communication and alignment between technical teams, management, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to critically evaluate complex technical work and provide constructive challenges.
  • A passion for developing talent, with demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring engineers at all levels.
  • Comprehensive understanding of global industry best practices, emerging technologies in reservoir engineering, and regulatory standards.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken). Portuguese proficiency is an asset.

 

Requirements 

  •  Degree (BSc) or higher in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • >10 in-depth experience in reservoir engineering within the oil and gas industry, with a significant track record in a senior technical role.
