Risk and Process Safety Advisor
Job Summary:
Provide expertise and technical advice to Operations, Wells, Exploration, Projects, Logistics and Subsea in the implementation of Azule Energy’s safety operational risk management process and process safety management framework; oversee and support effective management of their risk profile, including hazard analysis and barrier management; embed IOGP process safety fundamentals and drive process safety continuous improvement across all assets.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Management Process:
- Oversight and support effective implementation of the safety operational risk management standard across operating units;
- Provide expertise to Azule Energy Operations, Wells, Exploration, Projects, Logistics and Subsea in support of their safety operational risk management process, including risk identification, risk assessment, coordinating approval of risk management plans (quality assurance of risk content and risk action plans) and monitor risk action plan closure;
- Advice on emerging risks from significant barrier degradation and/or incident findings and recommend mitigation plans;
- Monitor asset barrier management outcomes including barrier health assessment, maintenance-related oversight on safety critical equipment and barrier improvement actions closure;
- Participates in functional risk meetings, including Facility Risk Reviews and other risk meetings (e.g., COO risk reviews);
- Supports risk champions in the preparation and delivery of their annual functional risk reviews.
Process Safety Management Process:
- Provide technical advice and support implementation of process safety management framework, standards and best practices across Azule operating units;
- Oversight quality assurance review of reported process safety events and investigations, including root cause trend analysis to identify systemic issues and ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented;
- Ensure process safety hazards are systematically identified, assessed, and effectively managed to prevent occurrence of major process safety accident;
- Advises on emerging process safety risks and recommend improvement strategies;
- Monitors performance of the condition of process safety-related barriers (such as pressure relief systems, fire suppression, emergency shutdown systems, Safety Instrumented Systems etc), provide insights and recommend improvement plans;
- Oversees Management of Changes (MoC) related to changes on process design/operating conditions and/or changes affecting Safety Critical Equipment (SCE);
- Participates in HAZOPs (Hazard and Operability Studies), LOPAs (Layer of Protection Analysis), and/or other risk assessments associated with high-pressure systems, flammable materials, and corrosive chemicals, and monitors findings closure;
- Supports embedment of IOGP (International Association of Oil & Gas Producers) Process Safety Fundamentals into day-to-day site activities;
- Leads or supports process safety incident investigation when required;
- Participates in the monthly asset process safety meeting and provides insights on systemic process safety performance gaps;
- Ensures conformance with Azule process safety related standards (Control of Work, Well Integrity, process excursions, etc), local regulations and international standards (OSHA, API, IOGP, etc)
Training and Competency:
- Provide coaching, guidance and training for risk champions, risk owners and barrier owners, supporting development of their safety operational risk skills and competencies;
- Provides coaching and awareness training on process safety hazard identification, IOGP process safety fundamentals & principles to the roles with process safety responsibilities, including frontline workers;
- Establishes and maintains process safety capability competency framework for Azule operating units;
- Lead Azule Community of Practice to build process safety capability and skills;
- Facilitate cross-functional workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions between Azule operating units;
Performance & Continuous Improvement:
- Prepare performance reports and monitor leading and lagging indicators for safety operational risk & barrier management and process safety Tier 3 and Tier 4, identifying trends and provide insights to leadership for strategic decision-making;
- Leads standardization and continuous improvement on process safety management framework across Azule organization;
- Monitors operational risk and process safety improvement plans and ensure prompt close-out of actions plan;
- Oversee output from audits, self-verifications, assurances, investigation findings and gap assessments related to operational risk and process safety management processes and identify improvement opportunities;
- Promotes a strong process safety culture through campaigns, workshops, and leadership engagement.
Essential experience, skills & competencies:
- 5 to 8 years of experience in process safety, operational risk or process engineering roles within oil & gas industry;
- Familiar with risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and What-If analysis
- Familiar with P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and control narratives
- Expertise in Barrier Management Model & Safety Critical Elements Integration
- Skilled in analyzing trends, KPIs, and performance metrics related to process safety;
- Technical knowledge and expertise in process safety hazard identification and process safety management standards
Essential Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
